HawaiiPearl HarborPearl Harbor Passport

Things to know before booking your Pearl Harbor Passport

  • The Passport to Pearl Harbor offers one-time entry to four historic sites: Battleship Missouri, Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum, and the Visitor Center Audio and VR tours, valid over two consecutive days.
  • Reservations for the USS Arizona Memorial are not included in this ticket and must be booked separately through the USS Arizona Memorial tour.
  • The Passport is non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled, so plan dates carefully before booking.
  • The USS Bowfin Submarine restricts access to children under age 4 for safety, so plan accordingly if traveling with young children.
  • Several attractions (Battleship Missouri and Aviation Museum) are located on Ford Island, a restricted military base; free shuttle service runs frequently from the Visitor Center, but allow extra time during busy periods.

Your itinerary options for a smoother visit

Exploring Pearl Harbor can feel overwhelming with so many historic sites and memorials to see. These itineraries will help you make the most of your visit, whether you have just a few hours or a full day.

Half-day visit (4–5 Hours)

  • Morning: Start with the USS Arizona Memorial Program, including the moving short film and boat ride to the memorial itself.
  • Late morning: Visit the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center exhibits to understand the events of December 7, 1941.
  • Optional add-on: If time permits, explore either the Battleship Missouri or the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum before you leave.
  • Perfect for those short on time but who want to experience the core history of Pearl Harbor.

Full-day passport experience

  • Morning: Begin at the USS Arizona Memorial for a solemn start, then head to the Battleship Missouri to walk the decks where WWII ended.
  • Afternoon: Visit the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, located on Ford Island, to see restored WWII aircraft and the iconic Control Tower.
  • Evening: Conclude at the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum, exploring the USS Bowfin and interactive exhibits.
  • Ideal for history buffs who want to dive deep into every major Pearl Harbor site in one day.

Is the Pearl Harbor Passport worth it?

Yes, especially if you want to experience all four major Pearl Harbor historic sites in one seamless ticket.

Here’s why:

  • Access to the USS Arizona Memorial, Battleship Missouri, Aviation Museum, and Submarine Museum in one pass
  • Save money compared to buying individual tickets
  • Skip the hassle of multiple bookings; one ticket covers it all
  • Dive deeper into WWII history with exhibits, films, and guided experiences
  • Bonus: It’s the best value for a full-day immersive Pearl Harbor visit, perfect for history buffs, families, and first-time visitors.

Visitor tips

  • Bring a clear bag or no bag at all: Pearl Harbor has a strict no-bag policy. To avoid delays, use a small, clear bag or carry essentials in pockets.
  • Dress respectfully for memorials: While casual attire is fine, avoid beachwear. Comfortable but modest clothing is recommended to honor the solemnity of the site.
  • Watch the intro documentary carefully: Before visiting the USS Arizona Memorial, you’ll see a short film. Pay close attention, it sets the emotional tone and context for your visit.
  • Save the Aviation Museum for later in the day: The outdoor hangars can get very hot at midday. Visit in the late afternoon when it’s cooler and less crowded.
  • Look for survivor signatures: At the USS Missouri, you may find areas signed by WWII veterans who visited, a moving hidden detail many miss.
  • Use the audio guide app: Instead of renting gear on-site, download the Pearl Harbor audio guide app to your phone. It adds depth to the exhibits and lets you explore at your own pace.
  • Spend time at the lesser-known Submarine Museum: Many visitors rush past it, but the USS Bowfin offers a fascinating look at life aboard a WWII sub, and it’s less crowded.
  • Check ferry timing in advance: The ferry to the Arizona Memorial runs on a schedule. Plan around it to avoid missing your slot, as rescheduling is tricky.
  • Bring tissues or a small notebook: Many visitors are moved emotionally, and jotting thoughts or keeping tissues handy helps process the experience.
  • Plan your lunch strategically: Food options are limited. Either eat before arriving or bring a snack (allowed only in designated areas) to avoid wasting time in lines.
